SI St. Andrews & District was chartered in 1960 so to celebrate the Club’s 50th Anniversary a special lunch was held at the Scores Hotel, St. Andrews on Saturday, 13th November 2010 when over 70 guests, including many past Club members and Soroptimists from other clubs in Scotland North Region enjoyed an excellent meal and a fascinating talk on terrrorism from guest speaker, Louise Richardson, Principal of St. Andrews University, and the first woman to hold this post. President Anne Rutherford presided over the celebrations which included the cutting of the birthday cake by Ethel McKay, the Club’s oldest member, who had recently celebrated her own 96th birthday. The anniversary was also marked by a Civic Reception given by Fife Council at St. Andrews Town Hall on Friday November 12th. Provost Frances Melville spoke about the Club and its activities over the last 50 years and presented an anniversary gift of a silver quaiche to President Anne. Guests at the reception, included past and present Club members and representatives from some of the many local charities and organisations that the Club has helped over the years.
