Presidents Charity 2011-2012

The Mermaid Centre Charity Trust received a donation of £6000 from a variety of fundrasing events including the Big Bra Collection.

 The final collection and weigh in 29th March 2011. We did it 600kg of Bras in 7 months and £360 for the Mermaid!

A very big thank you to the ladies of Cornwall!

 

DECEMBER  6th President Kay and Ailie attended morning assembly at TRURO HIGH SCHOOL for GIRLS They talked about Soroptimism and the current Bra Recycling campaign.

 

Monday 29th November - A man with a van arrives to take the first load of bags of bras.

November 12th – Well over 230k We can now arrange for our first collection of Bras to go to the firm in Bristol for sorting. We are going to find out what happens to them next and how they get to East Africa.

 

Collecting at ASDA Tuesday 9th November.

Plenty of publicity before the event and the presence of the Mayor and Debbie from Radio Cornwall, resulted in 20k of Bras. Debbie even managed to get two ladies to donate the ones they were wearing!

Promoting the bra recycling campaign at kingsley Village Thursday 7th October. The Age and Ambition event orgnised by Cornwall Council and Age Concern Cornwall was to promote organisations for older people in Cornwall, but we were allowed a spot to explain the bra collection. Great  networking with 60 support groups and agencies and over 700 visitors.  Libby approached Lady Mary for a photo opportunity.

The BIG BRA COLLECTION  was launched at the begining of September.  We aim to collect a tonne of bras, these are sold to a firm in Bristol, the bras go to East Africa and we shall donate the money to the Mermaid Charity.

President Kay was interviewed by Radio Cornwall on Tuesday 14th September.

The Voice printed a great photo and article on September 1st and the Cornish Guardian have promised to give us publicity too.
