64^th ANNUAL DINNER

Some 110 Soroptimists, family and friends attended the annual dinner held on 9^th October 2009 at The Terrace Restaurant Brownhills.
After an enjoyable meal, formal toasts and a welcome from Club President Chris Higgs the entertainment consisted of two members of The History Wardrobe who gave a witty and highly informative presentation on men’s clothing in the time of Jane Austen called Undressing Mr Darcy.

Fish and Chips

Members of club entertained the residents of Kelvey House to a fish and chip supper, this was followed by community singing. Our business meeting is held in the lounge at Kelvey House and this was a way of saying thank you.

Members and their families and friends enjoyed a wonderful evening at Packington Moor Farm on Friday 8th October. Entertainment was provided by Bella Musica.

Murder Mystery Dinner Party

Members of Club played the numerous parts in this production! The murderer was identified and a good time was had by all. Funds raised went towards transporting clothing and other items to Belarus, a charity we have supported for many years to help the victims of the Chernobyl fallout.

AIR AMBULANCE

Club President Pat Nixon had an accident at the end of 2009 which necessitated her being lifted by one of the Midland Air Ambulances. She was clearly very grateful for their help and was delighted when one of our members Marcia Haden and her husband John offered to do a sponsored walk for their funds. An amount of £400 was raised and a presentation was made at RAF Cosford which is the headquarters of Air Ambulance Midlands. One of their representatives also attended the June Supper meeting to talk about the work and fund raising of the organisation.

WATER AID

S.I. Sutton Coldfield have raised money for two Water Aid projects. First for ’75 for 75′ the Federation Project to Celebrate its 75 years of Soroptimism. The second amount was in memory of Past International President Lynn Dunning who died earlier this year, her project has been entitled ‘Loos for Lynn’. Together an amount of £350 was raised by increasing members awareness of the water they use and a coffee morning open to families and friends. This money will go to countries where water is often carried daily by women for a number of miles.

Belarus Shoe Boxes Christmas 2009

The members of S I Sutton Coldfield sent 571 shoe boxes ready wrapped for Christmas to Belarus. We have been involved in this project for 9 years and have progressed from 32 boxes the first year! They are Christmas gifts for all ages from 0 – 100!

Belarus is still badly affected by the Chernobyl fallout. We work with the Chernobyl Affected Children Charity based in Leicester, we help to pay transport costs and throughout the year send non prescription hospital supplies, clothes, household items and toys.
