A Message From The Club President
Welcome to Soroptimist International of Swindon & District. This is a photo of me wearing a top sent to us by our friendship link Club in Nigeria. I am honoured to be President of the Swindon Club this year. When my children were young I left the Club, but I was welcomed back when I was more able to spare some time from family responsibilities. I was President before in 1999/2000 so I knew what was involved. (It is difficult to believe that my two sons are now aged 30 and 33! ) I am happy to give Soroptimism some commitment and to be able to make a difference to the lives of women who have not had the advantages in life that I have been lucky to have had We none of us ever have enough time to do all that we would like to do, but I urge anyone thinking of joining a Soroptimist Club to go ahead. I have made many friends in the Swindon Club and I have learnt so much about local and global affairs. I now get involved in lobbying and taking action to improve things for other women in the world. Meeting regularly with women from many different backgrounds, who share a common desire to make a difference, is stimulating and certainly makes a change from the small talk of most social gatherings!
If you are looking for friendship, fun and a focus for your wish to ‘give something back’ then why not find out more about our Club. I shall be delighted to meet with you and explain all about Soroptimist International. It is a worldwide organisation divided into four Federations. Here in the UK we have a Residential Club at 63 Bayswater Road where women can safely stay in London on their own in a central location. By joining our Club you would be linked with many other soroptimists all over the world. Why not send me an e-mail now to: jhlking@aol.com I should really like to hear from you.
