Soroptimist International - Tynedale

Soroptimist International of Tynedale is part of a worldwide organisation of women, which is linked to the United Nations.

Welcome to SI Tynedale

Soroptimist International Tynedale is situated in the beautiful Tyne Valley in Northumberland. The principal market town is Hexham, famous for its Abbey and a convenient base for visits to nearby Hadrian’s Wall and the Kielder Forest.

One of the youngest clubs in the Soroptimist Region of Northern England, established over 30 years ago, we have made our mark internationally through the ” Reaching Out” project supporting education opportunities in Northern Ghana. This project received the Globalisation and Poverty International Award at the Sydney Soroptimist International Convention.

At regional level, the club works with the Northumbria Police providing new start bags for trafficked women and responds to regional calls for action on important issues including the Violence Against Women End It Now campaign.

As well as supporting international and regional projects, we are active in upholding the needs of our local community. Projects we support regularly include digital media recordings of local press articles for the Tynedale Talking Newspaper – a service to the visually impaired and fundraising and campaigning for NDAS formerly 60 80 30, the Tynedale-based domestic abuse advisory service. More recently we have engaged in awareness raising sessions and fundraising for the local charity Chrysalis, for sufferers of memory loss and their carers.

Meetings

Tynedale Club holds speaker meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month at the Boatside Inn, Warden on the outskirts of Hexham. The meetings commence with dinner at 19.00 and involve speakers on issues of local, national and global interest including Water Aid, juvenile diabetes, health centres in Malawi, trafficking, domestic abuse, the Food Bank and accessible microfinance.  Our club also enjoys outings such as the Yves St Laurent exhibition at Bowes Museum, pottery making and  visits to stately homes. We look forward to special treats such as charitable lunches and afternoon teas.
