NEPACS2       NEPACS3 Immediate Past President Anne presented £1000 to NEPACS (North East Prison After Care Service).  This donation will be used to support ‘family days’ ensuring children visiting relatives in prison have positive memories of family life.

good picWith the help of a £1800 grant from Greggs and various generous donations  we have put together 36 ‘NEW START BAGS’. These backs provide everything a young girl or woman would need for the first week after they have been saved from trafficking.  This Programme of Action has taken place in conjunction with other clubs in the Northern Region and DI Claire Wheatly of Northumbria Police through Operation Sanctuary and our ongoing action to raise awareness of ‘Violence Against Women and Girls. global blanket3 How awesome is this Global Blanket.

The Global Blanket is an international campaign to raise awareness of where are clothes are manufactured. Many women and young girls are traffiked to work in these industries.

The Global Blanket is a visual petition and the  target is to get 1 million signatures, worldwide by 2019.

The Northern Regional President, Jane Inman, asked all Soroptimist members in the region to sign and decorate a 5 x 5 “square.  Each of the 12 clubs in our region have done this, then Jane has stitched the squares together.  Ultimately this blanket will be presented at 10 Downing Street on U.N. Anti-Slavery Day.

And next year President Judy, OBE, has chosen The Manzini Project in Swaziland, where young girls and women, amongst many opportunities, can be trained as Early Years Teachers.                                                               Manzini3
