About our Club

Floral ClockWelcome to SI Weston-super-Mare, situated in a seaside resort, fashionable in Victorian times for its balmy sea air. It is still a popular holiday destination with a smart refurbished seafront. The burning down of the Grand Pier in 2008 reached the national news  but we now have a brand new Grand Pier with exciting attractions, function rooms and catering establishments. The traditional donkeys remain on the beach, bringing joy to each generation of children.

John Cleese and Jeffery Archer are famous sons of Weston and Roald Dahl started his education here. Weston has its own lifeboat,  regularly supported by our club.

Our club was founded in 1939 by its sister club, SI Bristol. In March 2009 we celebrated our 70th anniversary. In recognition of this, the town’s floral clock was planted that year to depict the Soroptimist emblem during the flowering season (see photo right)

Our members come from many different walks of life; their interests and expertise cover a large spectrum of our society. We meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month to discuss SI business and listen to speakers on varied topics. In common with all Soroptimist clubs we care first and foremost for the wellbeing of women and girls at home and abroad.  We are a friendly and sociable group who enjoy having fun as well as helping others.
