Tenby Museum and Art Gallery was the recent recipients of a generous gift of an original painting by Doreen Hammersley.
The painting, an evocative landscape, was kindly gifted to the museum by Eleanor Parker, president of Soroptimists International (Tenby and District). Members from the local Soroptimists met at the museum to officially present the painting to the museum.
Doreen was a well-known and much-loved personality in Tenby and participated in much of the social life of the town. She was captain of the 4th Tenby Guides, County Commissioner for Pembrokeshire, vice-president of Girl Guiding Cymru and chairperson of the Trefoil Guide. Doreen was a Soroptimist between 1976 and 2016 and took on the role of president in 1984. She was involved in many art groups, had been a chairperson of Tenby Arts Club and a trustee and loyal supporter of Tenby Museum and Art Gallery. In 2014, she was delighted to be the recipient of the British Empire Medal. She died in 2016.
Currently, there is a display of several of Doreen’s art works at the museum and the recently donated work will take its place alongside these for the next month.
