Eighteen-year-old Tajiri Griffith, a sixth form student at The Christ Church Foundation School, is the recipient of a $2, 500 scholarship compliments of the Soroptimist International of Jamestown.
Griffith is one of two Barbadian students chosen to represent the island at the Global Youth Leaders Conference which will be held in Washington DC. The cost of the trip is valued at $10,000.
President of Soroptimist International of Jamestown Cheryl Niles presented the cheque donation at The Foundation School this morning and said the organization was thrilled to sponsor a male to attend this prestigious event.
“He is the recipient of the Global Youth Leaders Conference and has been chosen to represent his school and Barbados in Washington this year. We were approached to make a donation that he would be able to attend this prestigious conference,” she said.
Speaking to the media after accepting the donation, Griffith said he hopes to become a hydraulic engineer and attending the Global Youth Leaders Conference would further develop his leadership skills.
