When Tamworth Soroptimist Vicky Vernon flew to South Africa, she had some rather unusual items in her luggage – 7,000 tea bags!
But they weren’t for drinking – in fact, they were all used teabags, which had been emptied, dried and neatly folded – to be reused for a charity craft project.
The teabags have now been donated to a charity in Hout Bay, South Africa, which provides employment for the local community making various items such as tea trays, coasters and even bags.
Members of the South African Wolves Supporters Club, led by Barry Vernon, became interested in the project and the charity agreed to make some tea trays and coasters displaying the Wolves badge. These will be sold at the football club to raise money for the charity.
The charity details and also the Soroptimist emblem and notes will be on the underside of each piece. Vicky, who lives in Dosthill, but who also has a home in South Africa, came across Original Teabag Designs and decided that she and her fellow Soroptimists here in Tamworth could lend a helping hand.
