President’s July 2021 Message

It is with much sadness that I am writing this in the knowledge that President Johanna is no longer with us.

I would like to thank everyone for all their messages of condolence and kind thoughts in support of Johanna’s family and the SIGBI Board. My apologies if inadvertently I have not personally responded.

I attended Johanna’s Thanksgiving Service, held at St Luke’s Church, Maidenhead, on Monday, 28 June. It was a fitting memorial to Johanna, where I learnt more about her very full and interesting life.

Johanna was immensely proud to be President during S.I’s centennial year and would be encouraging members to register in large numbers for the Llandudno virtual Conference, 29 to 30 October 2021. The theme this year is ‘Believe to Achieve’, which perfectly encapsulates the ethos of Soroptimists everywhere.

Take advantage of the early bird registration which is available until 16 August and the opportunity to attend one of the two workshops that have been organised for both Friday and Saturday. Places are limited, so to avoid disappointment, please clearly state your chosen workshop on your registration form.

There is still time to register for Soroptimist International’s 100th anniversary celebrations, to be held virtually 1 – 3 October 2021. I am sure that there was much initial disappointment that Soroptimists would not be gathering in the Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco. However, the organisers are working extremely hard, ensuring that a thoroughly enjoyable experience will be had by all. The upside is that being virtual, it provides an opportunity for many more people to join in the celebrations.

You will have read that the lunch reception at the House of Lords, which is part of SIGBI’s centennial celebrations, has been moved to 6 October 2021, in the hope that as many people as possible will be able to attend. I will update you as more information becomes available.

The August edition of Soroptimist News will feature some of the wonderfully imaginative ways in which clubs have been celebrating the centenary throughout the year.

STOP PRESS: Check out SIGBI’s online shop on 3 July, for the launch of its new ‘Baron’s Red’ wine and ‘Signature’ white wine, which is produced by an award-winning vineyard in Essex.

I wish everyone a relaxing summer break, all that is needed now is some lovely sunshine to accompany the wine!

In friendship
