United Kingdom ratifies the Istanbul Convention

The United Kingdom has ratified the Istanbul Convention (Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence), and it comes into force in the UK on 1 November 2022.

The UK is the 37th state to ratify the convention but, sadly, has made a reservation limiting the rights of migrant women. Reservations under the convention last for 5 years but we can advocate for it to happen more quickly so that all women benefit from the protection offered by this convention. A petition to do this is at https://www.change.org/p/uk-government-help-end-violence-against-women-ratify-the-istanbul-convention?signed=true.
