[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Club members have been particularly active over many years in their efforts to raise funds for and give practical support to a range of charitable causes and especially those which support women and girls locally, nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n

Locally we support Grampian Women’s Aid\u00a0<\/strong>which offers a free and confidential, specialist service to women, children and young people in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire who have experienced domestic abuse.(http:\/\/grampian-womens-aid.com<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Members have volunteered to help in the local charity shop, donated funds and a variety of items to Aberdeen Cyrenians <\/strong>which gives advice on homeless issues and housing, debt management, guidance on job applications, and access to food , clothing, toiletries and household items.(http:\/\/weareac.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Collecting for Marie Curie March 2025<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Members have been ready to ‘dress up’ and volunteer to collect for the local branch of the Marie Curie<\/strong> charity.<\/p>\n

Following a member’s talk about her trek to Everest base camp a donation was made to the charity, ‘Days for<\/strong> Girls’ <\/strong>which works in countries around the world including in Nepal, to provide menstrual health education and training for women and girls to produce and sell period pad kits and therefore, support their families. (http:\/\/www.daysforgirls.org)<\/a><\/p>\n

A Strawberry tea raised funds for ‘Stella’s Voice<\/strong>‘\u00a0 a charity, founded in 1996, which provides care, education and employment to protect young women from traffickers ( http:\/\/stella’svoice.org.uk<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Funds have been donated to the local branch of CHASS (Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland)<\/strong> whose strategy ‘No Life Half Lived’ ensures that anyone with chest, heart and stroke conditions as well as Long Covid can live well. (http:\/\/chss.org.uk<\/a>). By tending to dedicated gardens at the Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and at a local cemetery and crematorium we continue to support SANDS (Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society) <\/strong>whose aim is to reduce the number of babies dying and to support anyone affected by the death of a baby, and MISS<\/strong>, a charity providing support for miscarriage and early pregnancy loss in Aberdeen. For several years members have enjoyed visiting the Bonnymuir Community Garden<\/strong>, created as a sustainable and social hub for the use of members of the community and beyond. We have held plant sales there as part of our fundraising efforts for our club. (http:\/\/bgct.co.uk)<\/a><\/p>\n

The garden is a busy place, attracting more than 20,000 visitors a year and manned by volunteers who work in the garden and serve in the cafe. We have enjoyed several cuppas and home bakes as well as the many aspects of the extensive garden. Members are delighted to continue to support the garden in the coming years.<\/p>\n

We have also distributed funds to Smart Works<\/strong>,(http:\/\/smartworks.org.uk<\/a>) which helps unemployed women to get the coaching, confidence and clothing to change their lives, and to Strut Safe<\/strong>,(http:\/\/strutsafe.org<\/a>) winner of the 2023 Young Scot Community Award, which provides a UK wide telephone line for anyone walking alone. Members purchased weaving kits which were completed for a large design display, and sent on to SOHTIS (Survivors of Human Trafficking Scotland) <\/strong>(http:\/\/sohtis.org<\/a>), a charity working to enable survivors of human trafficking to rebuild their lives and enjoy lasting freedom.<\/p>\n

Our club also lends funds through Kiva<\/strong>, an online micro-lending platform and non-profit organisation which lends money to individuals around the world who would otherwise be excluded from other borrowing opportunities. Lenders can contribute as little as $25 and when the borrower repays the loan, the lender can choose to lend again and again to other borrowers. Our support helps women to succeed in various parts of the world. Recently two women, one\u00a0 in Pakistan and the other in Jordan, have used their loans to buy various items for their clothing\u00a0 businesses and in the Philippines a woman has been helped to build a sanitary toilet.<\/p>\n

We have supported the Team Jak<\/strong> Foundation, a Scottish charity, with members attending their fundraising ‘Ladies Day’.info@teamjak.org<\/a><\/p>\n

November 2025 saw funds distributed to Cybersafe Scotland, <\/strong>a social enterprise working to protect children in Scotland and around the world from online exploitation, http:\/\/cybersafescotland.org<\/a>, and to Book Aid International, <\/strong>info@bookaid.org <\/a>which provides books and supports libraries in various communities worldwide. Funds have also been donated to the British Red<\/strong> Cross,<\/strong> a humanitarian movement helping those most in need in the UK and nearly 200 countries around the world, and to the Scottish charity, Team Jak Foundation.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
