Soroptimist International Amber Valley President, Joyce Handbury welcomed Jonathan Brook the CEO of Valley Cids, to talk about the organisation. They are committed to raising aspirations and releasing potential of children and young people, in the Amber Valley Area of Derbyshire.

This charity was started over 20 years ago by Dorothy Whittaker in Swanwick. Valley Cids support local school visits to deliver Christian assemblies, the Blend Youth project which includes two Youth Centres and a Youth Enterprise Programme, Breakfast and After School Care, The Saltpot Café in Swanwick, a developing Turner Farm Project  and 34 Lighthouse Charity Shops across Derbyshire.

Volunteering in all areas of their charity is encouraged with a wide range of opportunities where new skills and friends can flourish. Further information can be found at

Jonathan was thanked by Val Herbert and was given a donation from SI Amber Valley.

Our club is holding a ‘Sew-in Evening’ in June where members will make school dresses for a Nursery School in The Gambia that we support. We also have a fund raising Fashion Show planned at the Palmer Morewood Club, Alfreton at 7.30pm on Tuesday 17/09/19
