Christmas Stall 2016

Christmsas StallSoroptimist International Amber Valley took part in the Switch-on of the Alfreton Christmas Lights with a Charity Stall.

The photograph shows the stall ready for business with home-baking, preserves and chutney, and the very popular ‘Pick a Teddy’. This was in fact pick the name out of the tin and match it to that on a soft toy. There were some remarkable creatures including Teddies – woolly sheep, Dalmatian dogs, cuddly kittens and the occasional frog. They were all claimed by delighted new owners who had been happy to pay £1 to have a go. Some young ladies returned a second time.

We took the opportunity to sell the clientele unexpected cakes – mini Lemon Drizzle and Box Brownies were particular suited for snacking. For those taken by surprise by the wealth of opportunity for shopping, cloth bags were for sale at 50p each to assist them in carrying home Christmas Cakes, mince pies, shortbread, marmalade and chutney.

Throughout the lovely sunny afternoon, choirs were singing and bands playing in the background. Finally, shortly after dusk, we had sold out and crept home early.
