President’s message

President Diane Davies 2024/25 2020/21

2024/25

It is an honour to serve a second term as club president and I hope that members will enjoy a variety of activities planned so we will have the opportunity to

HAVE FUN,

LISTEN to some interestingly different speakers and subjects

ENJOY the company of fellow Soroptimists,

PARTICIPATE in different activities,

LAUGH OUT LOUD at social gatherings or

DINE in great company,

TURN unwanted items into useful assets,

ENTERTAIN other members of our community and

IMPROVE our environment on local ‘gentle’ walks

SIP MOCKTAILS and COCKTAILS and go on a HAWAIIAIN adventure!

Whilst also hopefully raising funds at tombolas, plant stalls, craft sales, auctions, lunches, tea parties, and of course our wonderful raffles!

I have nominated the President’s main charity as Breast Cancer Care at Ysbyty Gwynedd with the main focus on a Grand Prize Draw Raffle to be drawn at a Fundraising evening with an ALOHA theme in October with prizes that can provide pleasure and the monies raised will make a difference to women who have been affected by this devastating disease.  The generous prize donors will be listed on a fundraising page on our website when the raffle is launched in May.

During the year we will also continue to support other charities such as our local women’s refuge, children’s wellbeing facilities and other local charities.

2020/21

It is an honour and privilege to be President of SI Bangor & District for 2020/21

I was born in Bangor, but have lived in many other areas of the world  and North Wales before returning to beautiful Ynys Môn / Anglesey where I now live overlooking the Menai Strait, Bangor and the Carneddau mountains of Snowdonia.

I have worked in the NHS since 2004 and now work in Corporate Governance at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor. This year will be a very challenging time for the NHS, and our communities, in looking after everyone affected by the Covid19 pandemic. I had decided that my nominated charity this year would be Dementia Care Services at Ysbyty Gwynedd, as nominated by past president Andy, and this will continue, along with support for other YG services as the health services evolve in the current climate. Another focus will be around recycling and using many of the things we no longer need to benefit others and be kind to our beautiful natural world.

We have started this year with our AGM held via Zoom and it has been wonderful to see so many members getting to grips with the technology to join in together for a different kind of meeting. Our buddy system is also helping us all to know how everyone is getting along.

I am grateful for all the many well wishes received and look forward to the year ahead – in friendship, and a very special party when we all meet up together again.
