Reading through the archives in readiness for this job I read poems members had written for our decade anniversary years. So I thought I would write my report in verse to end our 70th year. With pleasure, here is my final report<\/p>\n

President\u2019s Report : AGM 2 April 2019<\/p>\n

OUR SEVENTIETH ANNIVERSARY YEAR 2018 \u2013 2019<\/p>\n

Our seventieth year I’ll never forget –
\nThe things we have done and the people we’ve met,
\nThe talks we have heard and the visits we’ve made –
\nOur Platinum Birthday \u2013 our own cavalcade!<\/p>\n

Our birthday we shared with our dear N.H.S.
\nTogether we marked seven decades no less.
\nWe decided to help with Dementia Care,
\nTo support Delyth\u2019s team and their problems to share.<\/p>\n

We also supported Project Umeed,
\nFor the Pakistan women and children in need;
\nResourcing their schools and their centres that train
\nIn skills for the future – and incomes – that’s plain.<\/p>\n

We’ve pledged service to others, held special events,
\nWe\u2019ve walked and we\u2019ve talked and collected tents.
\nWe’ve knitted and sewn, and staffed many a stall,
\nSupporting our causes, involving us all.<\/p>\n

We’ve made gallons of soup and Christmassy stuff,
\nFound blankets and clothes for those sleeping rough.
\nWe\u2019ve tried to reduce our reliance on plastic \u2013
\nOur bottle top sacks are simply fantastic!
\nWe’ve supported Fair Trade, and our visitors’ talks,
\nSo rich and so varied from life’s many walks,
\nHave inspired and informed us of many behaviours,
\nFrom the Cape of Good Hope to our brave Blood Bike Saviours\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026.And the Refuge for Women – and the Cathedral as well,
\nWith centenary poppies their sad story tell.
\nWe heard Kirsty and Jules talk through the endeavour
\nOf Love Hope Strength\u2019s work to end cancer for ever.<\/p>\n

We’ve had fish-and-chip suppers, and quizzes and gaffes,
\nAn elegant Charter with speeches and laughs.
\nOur Platinum Party in the Mill at Pontrug-
\nOur Glam and Glitz evening – all hopes did exceed.<\/p>\n

The food was superb: the drinks were a sin!
\nSome favoured the tipple of Rhubarby Gin!
\nOur night\u2019s entertainment was Elvis, no less,
\nFreely giving his time our great cause to progress.<\/p>\n

To the Garden that’s Hidden we went to have tea
\nAnd then toured round Cadnant, the flora to see.
\nThe Rotary joined us that bright, sunny day;
\nWe were all so enchanted we wanted to stay.<\/p>\n

Before the year end, T.V. Studios we found
\nWhere Rondo produce and direct ” Rownd a Rownd”.
\nA warm welcome we had, with coffee and cakes;
\nLeft- overs, as usual, to St Mary\u2019s Sian takes.<\/p>\n

A great Tulip Tea we held at Y Glyn,
\nWith members and friends far and near joining in.
\nSuperior sandwiches, cakes and meringues,
\nFruit and cream scones created such pangs!<\/p>\n

The Raffle was drawn and the winners on call;
\nOur great thanks to Jenny for housing us all.
\nMy thanks to all members for help and hard work;
\nTasks varied and frequent we never did shirk.<\/p>\n

I’ve had good advice from experienced friends,
\nAnd support I shall cherish and ne’er make amends.
\nA learning curve steep in a job I’d not done,
\nBut, despite the hard work, it\u2019s been lots of fun!<\/p>\n

We miss Muriel sadly – with love and affection –
\nAnd her work for our Club carried out to perfection.
\nBut the birth of new babies brought laughter and joy.
\nTwin girls for Alecs! – and for Yi, a boy!<\/p>\n

To Eirwen I wish every blessing and joy,
\nSuccess and fulfilment – Your talents employ.
\nBe your own person: do it your way,
\nAnd we will all help you with tasks, come what may!<\/p>\n

We must seek new members, be open to all,
\nInvite friends and colleagues and set out our stall.
\nGive welcome with kindness to all who come here
\nAnd make them at home with our warmth and good cheer.<\/p>\n

There’s just one more thing from all that I’ve said,
\nabout the work for Dementia Care we have led;
\nIn terms of the money we finally raised
\nI am happy to say that I\u2019m truly amazed.<\/p>\n

With photographers, press and all of their ‘tech’,
\nTo the Hospital team we presented our cheque,
\nPromoting their work – and ours – with elation;
\nPlaques will be placed to record our donation.
\nA quiet room for patients is what they intend
\nFor reminiscing, relaxing and being with friends<\/p>\n

Once more my deep thanks for your help and support.
\nI’ve enjoyed every minute: it’s not been TOO fraught!
\nThe old year is ending, the new one is nigh,
\nAnd so tonight, we can all end on a high!<\/p>\n
