For 16 days of Activism from 25<sup>th<\/sup> November to 16<sup>th<\/sup> December each year Soroptimists celebrate progress towards women\u2019s rights and a safe space for them to live.<\/p>\n<p>Soroptimist focus on transforming the lives of women and girls, locally, nationally and globally through education, empowerment and enabling initiatives by raising awareness, advocacy and action. By so doing Soroptimists make a difference to the lives of more than half a million women and girls in the world every year.<\/p>\n<p>The sixteen days of Activism are opportunities to create public awareness about what needs to change to prevent these events happening in the first place. It is known that human trafficking is happening every hour of every day both locally and globally. Women and girls fall into the hands of traffickers, often through the promise of a better life in a better place. Young girls are being sold by family members known as the \u2018bride price\u2019 in order to feed the family. Violence in the home has increased. All of these violations have been exacerbated during the present pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Bangor Soroptimists campaign on these issues, they also provide practical help to local Women\u2019s Aid, and at International level they support the work of charities dedicated to improving the lives of women and girls.<\/p>\n<p>Soroptimists inspire action and create opportunities to transform the lives of women and girls through a global network of members and international partnerships. We are committed to a world where women and girls together achieve their individual potential, realise aspirations and have an equal voice in creating strong and peaceful communities worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>Soroptimists believe that women\u2019s rights are human rights and through their work in the community strive with that objective. Through the use of a variety of media channels the 16 days of Activism will highlight the need for action against the elimination of violence against women in all its aspects. Modern Day Slavery, Human Trafficking, Child Marriages, Rape and Sexual exploitation, Harassment in the workplace, and Female Genital Mutilation<\/p>\n<p>Soroptimist International is a leading global women\u2019s voluntary organisation. It has close to 80,000 members in more than 3000 clubs in over 100 countries around the world.
