Soroptimist Pam raises funds for Breast Cancer Now
Soroptimist Pam Allinson, a keen supporter of Breast Cancer Now which aims to raise funds to aid research into BreastCancer, was delighted to be able raise £100 for the charity through her Board Game at the Springbank Fete. Pam was instrumental in setting up the local Cardiff & Vale group to raise funds for what was then Breakthrough BreastCancer that has since morphed into Breast Cancer Now and Breast Cancer care. Her design of flowers on the Board Game attracted much attention and she is now selling prints to raise further money for the charity. Local representatives, Rosina Butler, Linda Watt .and Jenny Evans from Breast Cancer Now joined President Norma, Vice President Carolyn Bright and Jackie Memory from the Barry & District Soroptimists and Irene Lewis at the presentation of the cheque.
Pam, a former Wales South Regional President and Soroptimist International Great Britain and Ireland Assistant Programme Director for Education has been developing her artist skills using her left hand since having a stroke in 2016 with the help of her friend Irene Lewis. Recently one of Pam’s paintings featured on the SIGBI Facebook site and received plaudits from as far afield as Papua New Guinea and Australia.
President Norma Reynolds (left) welcomed new member Karla Flambert. Karla and her husband originally farmed in Hampshire before going to Romania to work with disadvantaged children. She also volunteered at an orphanage during a famine in Malawi, and as a nurse her care and experience were very much valued. She was also a founder member of Cancer Support France where she met Annora Tiley (pictured right).
Barry and District Soroptimists are very proud of one of their Linked Members Pam Allinson, a former SIGBI Assistant Programme Director for Education before she suffered a severe stroke in 2016. With the help of friends and club members, Pam is learning to paint with her left hand. Her work is proving so popular that copies are printed and sold in aid of Breast Cancer Now, as Pam was instrumental in setting up a local group for this charity.
In July President Norma welcomed new member Kalpana Natarajan. Kalpana was introduced by Kay Thomas.
