Bryn Hafren Cup 2018
In this, the Golden Anniversary year of Soroptimist International Barry & District, the worthy recipient of the Soroptimist Cup (Bryn Hafren Cup) for outstanding voluntary work was Kate Roberts. Since 1996 ( the Centenary of Female Secondary Education in Barry ) an annual award has been made by the Club to recognise and encourage outstanding Community service. At the presentation ceremony in the Seashore Grill, Swanbridge, President Jackie told members that Kate had completed over 550 hours of volunteering in school and the wider community during her time in Bryn Hafren. Kate has been a young leader of the 10th Barry Rainbows for a number of years which involves planning and leading games and activities for the 5-7 range. She has also volunteered at Rhoose library and the school library. Kate, has effectively fulfilled her role as Head Girl, participating in a variety of extra curricula activities such as assisting pupils in maths lessons and helping pupils with their reading in the Learning Support Department.
Kate, was presented with the cup and a cheque for £75 and received an enthusiastic round of applause from all the members at the meeting.
