Patagonia Instrument Project

In October 2015 the BBC National Orchestra of Wales embarked on an ambitious tour of Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, including a community residency celebrating the 150th anniversary of Y Wladfa, the Welsh settlement in Patagonia. During workshops  in Patagonia it quickly became apparent to the BBC musicians that most of the schools they visited had no instrument resources at all.

Chris Stock, Principal Percussionist of BBC NOW, decided to set up this project.

As a club at Linda’s behest members scoured attics, garages and friends’ houses and even local schools to find instruments that could be donated to the project. Initially it was thought that only pristine instruments would be acceptable but it transpired that any condition would do as these less than perfect instruments could be used to repair others.
