\"\"One of the highly anticipated parts of every SIGBI Conference is the Best Practice Awards. Always inspirational for SIGBI members.<\/p>\n

The Director Of Programme, Dr Kay Richmond, introduced the awards. The Best Practice Awards are awarded to clubs in five categories, based on the 5Ps. That is the five categories taken from the 17 UN Sustainable Goals. People. Prosperity. Planet. Peace. Partnership.\u00a0 Dr Richmond\u00a0emphases\u00a0that all Programme Action (PA) should contain SDG 17 – Partnerships.<\/p>\n

President\u00a0Isobel Smith gave congratulations to all winners, who will receive their certificates by email.<\/p>\n

Best Practice Award – Partnership<\/strong><\/h3>\n

SI Solihull \u2018Fun in the Park\u2019. SDG 17.<\/strong><\/p>\n

A community Family Day Out running for twelve years. 3-6,000 people attend. Fun events. 60 stalls including SI. Fund Raising for charities. Supporting local business women. Partnership with over one hundred local businesses and organisations. There was significant local promotion.<\/p>\n

Best Practice Award – Peace<\/strong><\/p>\n

SI Kirkintilloch \u201cJasmine and Thistle\u2019 SDGs 1-5.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peace through friendship. Initially working with refugees and asylum seekers, including Sanaa Alwadi from Syria. Offered friendship through food, storytelling and cultural opportunities. Helped twenty-six families. Educational needs. Driving lessons. Phone cards.<\/p>\n

Best Practice Award – People<\/strong><\/p>\n

SI San Fernando \u2018Coping with Covid\u2019\u00a0 SDGs 1-5.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Focussing on children\u2019s needs and problems through Covid-19 pandemic, with child psychologist, Dr Karen Moore, who donated her time to the project. Looked at restricted play options and made videos using a local sportsman and celebrity.<\/p>\n

Best Practice Award – Prosperity<\/strong><\/p>\n

SI London East \u2018Luminary Bakery\u2019 SDGs 7-11<\/strong><\/p>\n

A social enterprise bakery in Hackney, East London empowering women from all over London,\u00a0 through baking. The women are referred by a number of organisations in the area, including womens\u2019 services, anti-trafficking, homeless and domestic abuse services.\u00a0 A two year programme supporting women, who showed a significant increase in their knowledge, how to manage money, self-esteem and mental health. Mentored seven women for six months and stayed friends with them afterwards. Used social media.<\/p>\n

Best Practice Award – Planet<\/strong><\/p>\n

SI Liverpool \u2018Environmental Research Project (Nature-based Solutions.) SNGs 6 and 12-15.<\/strong><\/p>\n

An environmental project encouraging economic growth through jobs. An opportunity to have a voice in local planning and support the UN SDGs. Members learnt about \u2018nature-based solutions\u2019, including planting trees and green walls, from a Phd student. Engaged with other local community groups. Members planted 100 trees.<\/p>\n
