SI Bingley dreaming of an ‘Orange’ Christmas!

SI Bingley’s contribution to the Christmas Tree Festival 2017 in Bingley Parish Church continued their November Programme Action highlighting the Elimination of Violence towards Women.
What better opportunity than a local event, which would pull in the crowds, to continue their recent ‘Orange’ message displayed in the local library which focused on educating the public about the campaign.
A group was formed to develop the theme of the tree based around the carol ‘Come and Join the Celebration.’
Dried oranges and ‘all things orange’ hung from the branches and ‘Loves me, Loves me not’ cards hung alongside twinkling lights. ‘Friends’ bookmarks were displayed highlighting safe and healthy relationships. Orange and white ribbons reminded people of recent campaigns to eliminate violence and, in particular, to empower men to get involved to renounce violence against women.
Information and contact leaflets displayed below the tree highlighted the effects of violence against women alongside seasonal and timely reminders of love, joy and peace.
SI Bingley’s Christmas tree was a wonderful symbol, shining hope into dark places and raising the profile of the group within the town.
