This is the second year the holiday provision has been held for one day each in the first four weeks of the school holidays. Parents cook with their oldest child while younger siblings participate in a range of activities and games both indoors and outside. The food cooked is eaten as a communal lunch by volunteers and the families attending the sessions. Families are given ingredients to take home so they can replicate the cooking at home later in the week.<\/p>\n
There were places for 6 families to attend each session. Families were asked to pay a small deposit to reserve a place and this did result in higher numbers of people attending the sessions in 2019 compared to 2018. Where unavoidable circumstances prevented people attending (ie illness) people on the reserve list were contacted and were able to fill in the spaces on some of the sessions. Families who requested a place were selected the degree of vulnerability they experience.<\/p>\n
The sessions were held in the newly opened Bradford Community Kitchen, the original hall of Trinity All Saints CE Primary School and the playground of the school. The cooking was led by Mr Hughes who led the sessions last year on two of the days, the other two sessions were led by people from Inn Churches funded by the Jamie Oliver Foundation. Ingredients were provided free to the families. They were purchased mainly from Inn Churches for a small donation using money raised by fundraising events and from grants received.<\/p>\n
Altogether the sessions were used by 55 vulnerable people. 21 adults and 34 children of various ages. Any food that wasn\u2019t used on the day was taken to vulnerable people within the locality thus serving even more people in need.<\/p>\n
Sufficient volunteers were forthcoming that not all were needed which was a positive improvement from 2018.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
