{"id":4882,"date":"2025-12-11T12:04:01","date_gmt":"2025-12-11T11:04:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bingley\/?p=4882"},"modified":"2026-06-15T14:51:01","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T13:51:01","slug":"bingley-soroptimists-reclaim-the-night-2025","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bingley\/2025\/12\/11\/bingley-soroptimists-reclaim-the-night-2025\/","title":{"rendered":"Bingley Soroptimists Reclaim the Night &#8211; 2025"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bingley\/files\/2026\/01\/DSC09412.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-4883\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bingley\/files\/2026\/01\/DSC09412-300x200.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bingley\/files\/2026\/01\/DSC09412-300x200.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bingley\/files\/2026\/01\/DSC09412.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Every year, Soroptimists join the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/what-we-do\/ending-violence-against-women\/unite\/theme\">UN\u2019s global 16 Days of Activism<\/a>\u00a0to End Violence Against Women and Girls, held from 25 November to 10 December.<\/p>\n<p>This year members of S I Bingley decided to organise a Reclaim the Night Walk<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Why Aren&#8217;t we safe ??<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">Violence against women and girls affects <\/span><\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.unwomen.org\/en\/articles\/facts-and-figures\/facts-and-figures-ending-violence-against-women\"><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">one in three women<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">.<\/span><\/span><\/span> <span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">I<\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"color: #000000\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\"><span style=\"font-size: medium\">t is a global human rights emergency that must stop. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\">We walk to demand an end to sexual assault, rape, and all forms of men\u2019s violence and harassment against women and girls. We march to demand an end to the victim-blaming of women who experience sexual assault, rape, violence and harassment. We march to reclaim our streets and take back our spaces and to say that we have a right to access them without any fear. A mass of women pounding the streets together sends a message to our leaders that citizens, residents and voters care about women\u2019s safety.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\">Walking in solidarity and safety with your noisy sisters is good for your spirits. Regain your energy by sticking it to the patriarchy!<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\">Members of Soroptimist International of Bingley, family, friends and allies walked to demand an end to the victim-blaming of women who experience sexual assault, rape, violence and harassment. <\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\">Women wish to reclaim our streets and take back our spaces and to say that we have a right to access them without any fear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span style=\"font-family: Calibri, serif\">Sadly, many women and girls report that they do not feel safe especially during the dark nights.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">We were supported by members from other clubs, Cllr Susan Fricker and the CEO Chris Green, CEO of MACS ( Male Allies against Sexism).
