SI Bolton’s Clean for the Queen

Gathering up litter on Moss Bank Way
Gathering up litter on Moss Bank Way

On a sunny Saturday morning in March, members of SI Bolton met on Moss Bank Way, Smithills and spent a couple of hours litter picking on a stretch of road that we have cleaned for over 30 years. This year the clean up was part of a concerted countrywide effort to clean for the Queen in the year of her 90th birthday.  Other organisations in Bolton took part on the same weekend to litter pick in other areas around the town. Our litter pickers collected 10 bags, and at the same time made sure that the cans and bottles were kept separate..  Among the surprising items collected were a damaged drone, two huge umbrellas and part of a mechanical pump! If you are travelling along Moss Bank Way you may see our signage, “Soroptimist International of Bolton” under the Bolton Council sign which says “Love Bolton Hate Litter”. Friends and other club members congratulated us on our efforts and no doubt you will see us again in a few weeks’ time, hope the weather is kind to us once again.
