A NEW award which celebrates Bolton’s girls and young women has been launched by Bolton Soroptimists. Nominations have been invited for the Young Achiever of the Year by the organisation that supports projects across the world helping women and girls achieve their potential and have an equal voice in their communities. President Carole Swarbrick explained: “We wanted to recognise and celebrate the many Bolton young women and girls who are achieving goals and realising their aspirations in line with the global aims of Soroptimist International. The person we are looking for will demonstrate that she is having a positive impact on others as a volunteer or through service to school, family and friends or that she is achieving personal goals through academic subjects or sport.” The Young Achiever of the Year award was launched by the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Hilary Fairclough, who said it

Charter dinner celebrating 80th Anniversary

Chartered in 1939 our Bolton club is celebrating it’s 80th anniversary this year. To celebrate the club hosted a special Charter dinner at Brookfield in Westhoughton. Helping us to celebrate our President, Maureen Barber welcomed the  guests; the Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Elaine Sherrington, Miss Sue Underwood, President of Soroptimist International Federation of Great Britain and Ireland, and the Reverend Paul Hardingham. After a beautiful meal we were treated to a talk by Carol Graham of “Storyspace”. Carol originally comes from Bolton but is now living and working in Shropshire where she works with children and adults to develop creativity and confidence through stories and creative writing, including poetry. Carol was clearly an inspirational teacher and she entertained us with her own stories as well as poems written by women in her workshops. Members of Soroptimist International of Bolton were welcomed at Bolton Town he Mayor Cllr Elaine Sherrington. She congratulated SI Bolton on reaching the club’s 80th Anniversary. Maureen Barber, President of SI Bolton presented the Mayor with a cheque for £500 for her Mayoral Charities. After a very informative tour of the Town Hall our members enjoyed a beautiful afternoon tea.
