SI Bournemouth members were once again thrilled to manage one of the many hydration stations at the 2019 Bournemouth Marathon. As usual they, and the athletes, were lucky and enjoyed the sunshine and seasonally warm temperatures that are so typical along the South Coast of England. Apart from a few gusts of wind that blew sand up from the promenade all was well.

The event was especially exciting as a member’s grandson ran the marathon to raise funds for the club’s own charity, Cementing Futures. Tom Hume completed the whole marathon in five hours and twelve minutes and so far has received donations in excess of £1055. It’s not too late to donate at – https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/thomas-hume1

Cementing Futures is an educational development charity bringing education, hope and dignity to children living in the slums of Dhaka who cannot currently access state provided education.
Pre-primary and primary education is provided by securing premises, trained teachers and equipment along with a daily nutritional snack. The children are taught basic literacy and numeracy in both Bengali and English with an aim of moving into the state education system as the opportunity arises.
