Celebrating Science. A STEM based Challenge for Girls
This is a STEM based Challenge Project for local secondary schools. Following the success of the first competition in 2013, a group of members decided to continue the work which seeks to encourage girls to take subjects at school which will enable them to consider careers involving science, technology, engineering and maths . Currently only one in five girls take a full range of science subjects at GCSE level, and this in turn has lead to a more limited career choice.
Pupils work in teams on a project of their choosing, to design a product that has the potential to help people in the poorest parts of the world.
The photo shows winning teams from Arnewood and Bournemouth School for Girls. Prizes were presented to them by Roma Ragwaral, a structural engineer who worked on the famous Shard building in London.Even nore schools will be taking part in the 2014 event.
