{"id":1350,"date":"2016-06-26T22:29:32","date_gmt":"2016-06-26T21:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bournemouth\/?p=1350"},"modified":"2022-05-30T08:21:41","modified_gmt":"2022-05-30T07:21:41","slug":"celebrating-national-women-in-engineering-day-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bournemouth\/2016\/06\/26\/celebrating-national-women-in-engineering-day-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"CELEBRATING NATIONAL WOMEN in ENGINEERING DAY 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_1352\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1352\" style=\"width: 150px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"\/bournemouth\/files\/2016\/06\/DSCF2895.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-1352 \" src=\"\/bournemouth\/files\/2016\/06\/DSCF2895-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"So many ideas......\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1352\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">So many ideas&#8230;&#8230;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Bournemouth Soroptimists were delighted to support the RNLI\u2019s Women\u2019s Network to celebrate National Women in Engineering Day 2016.<\/p>\n<p>Having been inspired by Bournemouth Soroptimists STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering &amp; Maths) Challenge, in which they formed part of the judging panel, the <a href=\"http:\/\/rnli.org\/Pages\/default.aspx\">RNLI<\/a> Women\u2019s Network decided to set a \u2018Safety Message challenge\u2019 to girls at local schools.<\/p>\n<p>The prestigious event was held at the RNLI headquarters in Poole where the girls were encouraged to design a \u2018cool safety message when on the water which will appeal to young people\u2019. The event began with a list of famous women inventors in STEM based industries but who were also from creative backgrounds and the<a href=\"https:\/\/sustainabledevelopment.un.org\/sdgs\"> UN Sustainable Development goals<\/a> were promoted.\u00a0 To inspire the students further they visited the \u2018Ideas Room\u2019 where ideas were discussed to make a safer \u2018sea bubble\u2019 which could ferry people to their workplace. In the \u2018Careers Room\u2019 they took a quiz to determine their strengths in STEM based careers and the opportunities available to them and in the \u2018Inspiration Room\u2019 they met a lifejacket designer.
