SI Bournemouth members are looking forward to their #STEM2019 Challenge fortnight. The annual competition is now in its sixth year with the purpose of encouraging girls in Years 8 and 9 to consider developing interest in STEM subjects.<\/p>\n

This year entries have been submitted from 19 teams across 12 schools, 8 from Year 8 and 11 from Year 9.<\/p>\n

The Heats will take place on Tuesday, 12th<\/sup> and Thursday, 14th<\/sup> March in the Fusion Building at Bournemouth University<\/a> with judging starting at 6.30pm.\u00a0 As always the club and competitors are most grateful to the university\u2019s support of the event.<\/p>\n

The Finals and Prizegiving will take place at the same venue on Thursday, 21st<\/sup> March and we will be welcoming the HM Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Dorset, Professor Gillian Slater.<\/p>\n

Joint President of SI Bournemouth, Liz Dominey, who is also Chair of the UK Programme Action Committee (UKPAC)<\/a> is attending the UN\u2019s Commission on the Status of Women (CSW63)<\/a> in New York. Liz has been invited to present the STEM Challenge on Thursday, 14th<\/sup> March at an event entitled \u2018Lifting Women Out Of Poverty Through Lifelong Learning\u2019.\u00a0 The objective of the event is to demonstrate that quality education for women and girls throughout their lifespan is a necessary foundation if all Sustainable Development Goals<\/a> are to be achieved.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
