23rd March was a day of celebration for members of SI Bridgend with an Easter Lunch, birthdays and long service awards, as well as one new member and one honorary member.
First of all, it was lovely to welcome back President Bethan after her accident – we wish you well for your forthcoming operation and look forward to seeing you skipping around very soon.
It was also a pleasure to welcome April May as a new member. April May has attended a number of events and Club meetings and is set to make a very positive contribution to Soroptimist International.
Members also recognised the service given to SI Bridgend by long-standing member Rosemary Deere by making her an honorary member of the Club. Rosemary has been a Soroptimist for over 50 years and played a very active role during that time.
President Bethan extended the celebratory atmosphere with the presentation of long service certificates to twelve members who have collectively given an amazing 430 years of service within the community:
Rosemary Deere and Janet Walker both for 50 years’ service
Eurwen Richards for 45 years’ service
Shan Walsh and Lynda Edwards both for 40 years’ service
Lily Laesser, Frances Rees, Anne Hughes, Jean Thomas, Jean Roderick and Joyce Chatterton all for 30 years’ service
and Jean Davies for 25 years’ service.
President Bethan said, “What an enormous pleasure to present so many long service awards. Well done ladies for your dedication to Soroptimist International and the fun, friendship and laughter you have brought to our Club.”
The meeting was also one of birthday celebration. Marjorie Page and Helen Murdoch were celebrating birthdays on the 23rd, whilst honorary member Janet Walker was celebrating her 90th birthday on 24th March.
To round off our celebrations the guest speaker, Pat Johnson, entertained us with a lively and fascinating talk on Crafting with Felt. And members sang Happy Birthday to Janet as she cut her birthday cake.
