On 20<sup>th<\/sup> May where we met in Weston (W-s-M) Woods and Worlebury Camp Iron Age Hillfort &#8211; where burials dated back to 385-197BC. Nick, a Soroptimister led the walk and his knowledge of the woods was amazing. We entered the woods from Worlebury Hill and walked through to the hillside overlooking the Old<a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2021\/06\/walk-in-weston-woods-2.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-5619\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2021\/06\/walk-in-weston-woods-2-300x277.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"190\" height=\"175\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2021\/06\/walk-in-weston-woods-2-300x277.png 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2021\/06\/walk-in-weston-woods-2.png 960w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 190px) 100vw, 190px\" \/><\/a> Pier \u2013 to our right was Sand Bay and to our left Uphill.\u00a0 During World War 1 the woods were cleared for trenches and a blue plaque confirms that Dwight Eisenhower along with <a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2021\/06\/Weston-Woods-blue-plaque.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-5621\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2021\/06\/Weston-Woods-blue-plaque-300x190.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"189\" height=\"120\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2021\/06\/Weston-Woods-blue-plaque-300x190.png 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2021\/06\/Weston-Woods-blue-plaque.png 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 189px) 100vw, 189px\" \/><\/a>American Troops were camped here in preparation for the 1944 D Day Landing.<\/p>\n<p>We had such a lovely afternoon, not only did we learn a lot about the woods but we were able to get to know our friends better.\u00a0 We plan on more walks in the area to consolidate our link.\u00a0 Many thanks to SI Weston-super-Mare for organising it and to their Soroptimister Nick for making it such fun.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The initiative to link Clubs to support each other during the covid crisis came for&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":584,"featured_media":5620,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[18],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-5615","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-club-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.4 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Pairing with SI Weston-super-Mare: Our first event \u2013 A walk in Weston Woods | News | Blog | Events | SI Bristol<\/title>\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"SI Bristol : Blog &amp; News : Pairing with SI Weston-super-Mare: Our first event \u2013 A walk in Weston Woods : Keep up to date with the latest news, articles and events from the Soroptimists of SI Bristol .
