\"\"<\/a>Orange the World: Railing Against Abuse<\/strong><\/p>\n

Yet again we Oranged the World starting at our Club Meeting on November 22nd saying \u201cno\u201d to Abuse. \u00a0Then on Thursday 25th November\u00a0we\u00a0joined a Regional “Railing Against Abuse” march organised by Soroptimist Weston-super-Mare in Weston and a group of Bristol club members also met at the Clifton Rocks Railway in Bristol (built in the 1800’s), tied orange ribbons on the gate to saying “No to violence against women\u201d.<\/p>\n

For the \u201c16 Days of Activism\u201d we posted on social media and then finally on the 10th December we held a Zoom meeting inviting our Friendship Links and had a speaker from Save the Children. \u00a0A fitting way to end our 16 days of Activism Saturday 27th November<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>St Peter\u2019s Hospice Fundraiser:\u00a0 Our Charity of the Year<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our Soroptimist Bristol team had a stall in a Gift & Craft Fair in aid of #stpetershospice at On 27th<\/sup> November we joined other stall holders at Westbury-on-Trym Methodist Church Hall with a stall in aid of St Peters Hospice.\u00a0 Some of the items (some of which are seen in the photograph) were hand made many of which were from fabric donated by Hillarys Blinds which would otherwise have gone to landfill.\u00a0 In addition there were greeting cards, homemade produce to name but a few. \u00a0We raised over \u00a3500.\u00a0 \"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

On the 21st December Sue P, Susan G and Marion collected donations for St Peter’s Hospice at the Mall.\u00a0 The figures form a nativity scene of full-size figures that were knitted by volunteers (hence knitivity).<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>St Mary Redcliffe\u00a0Treefest\u00a02nd<\/sup> to 5th<\/sup> December 2021<\/strong><\/p>\n

This is the\u00a0fourth\u00a0year that SI Bristol has participated in the\u00a0St Mary Redcliffe\u00a0Treefest.\u00a0 Last\u00a0year,\u00a0due to the restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic,\u00a0it\u00a0was an online event.\u00a0 This year,\u00a0it\u00a0is\u00a0back in the\u00a0gothic church of St Mary Redcliffe.\u00a0 The\u00a0Treefest\u00a0consists\u00a0of\u00a0over 40\u00a0trees\u00a0creatively\u00a0decorated by\u00a0resourceful people in\u00a0local charities, schools, businesses and other organisations.\u00a0\u00a0Thanks go to Denise,\u00a0Duncan (Soroptomister),\u00a0Yvonne\u00a0and Marion\u00a0for decorating, in situ.\u00a0 Our tree \u00a0this year is a lichen-rich bough from an ancient apple tree. \u00a0The\u00a0Treefest\u00a0ran from\u00a02nd\u00a0to 5th\u00a0December\u00a0and on Saturday 4th\u00a0there was a special Carol Service.\u00a0\u00a0 This years charity was\u00a0Treeaid\u00a0www.treeaid.org.uk<\/a><\/u><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>Christmas Party 6th December\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

This year our final meeting was our Christmas party.\u00a0 Sadly last year thanks to Covid it was a virtual party and it was lovely to feel \u201cnormal again\u201d.\u00a0 Audley Redwood did us proud and produced a delightful Christmas meal and the tables were beautifully decorated by one of our own members.<\/p>\n

We welcomed Tim Lewis and Sheila Furneaux. \u00a0Sheila played the keyboard and Tim sang songs on the theme of \u201cThe Most Tremendous Tale of All\u201d. \u00a0A Christmas story using the Ladybird books to illustrate the tale.<\/p>\n

As is tradition we made a collection for Caring in Bristol who care for the homeless during this festive time. towards their work with the homeless in Bristol during the Christmas period.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>The Lord Mayor of Bristol\u2019s Children Appeal: Collecting at Tesco Golden Hill\u00a0 10th December\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Lord Mayor of Bristol\u2019s Children Appeal is a registered charity that raises money throughout the year to help the city\u2019s most disadvantaged children and young people at Christmas time.\u00a0 Traditionally we have \u201cbag packed\u201d for the appeal but on the occasion, we collected at the door.\u00a0 It was a chilly day but the shoppers kept us cheery and we collected nearly \u00a3500.\u00a0 \u00a0The Children\u2019s Appeal was also Tesco\u2019s \u201cNovember Charity of the Month\u201d and so we were also given nearly \u00a3300 from their second-hand book sales.\u00a0 A very worthwhile event.<\/p>\n

Many thanks to everyone who worked so hard during 2021<\/p>\n
