{"id":7135,"date":"2026-04-20T13:01:14","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T12:01:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/?p=7135"},"modified":"2026-04-20T13:01:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T12:01:14","slug":"physionet-update-on-our-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/2026\/04\/20\/physionet-update-on-our-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"PhysioNet:  Update on our Activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-2.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7146\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-2-300x173.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-2-300x173.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-2.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>We have been supporting PhysioNet for some time now and have tried to support them on at least a monthly basis. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PhysioNet collects surplus disability, mobility and medical equipment, refurbishes it and distributes it to children and adults who lack access to such resources.\u00a0 By working with local and international partners, PhysioNet ensures that these essential items including wheelchairs, scooters and walking aids are provided to communities where they can make the greatest impact.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year we reported that groups of our members regularly volunteer with PhysioNet at their Gloucestershire depot.\u00a0 They recently acquired a new south west depot in Cambridge near Slimbridge (Gloucestershire).\u00a0 Bridget, our Programme Action officer, organises our attendance with PhysioNet.<\/p>\n<p>During the year we are regularly joined by a group of collaborating Rotary members<a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7145\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-225x300.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-225x300.jpeg 225w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026.jpeg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a> to sort out a veritable mountain of crutches and other equipment. For example we paired, cleaned and sorted the crutches, tying them in bundles of five, in preparation for these to be eventually shipped abroad. There is always a large number of volunteers making it very sociable.<\/p>\n<p>There are other activities too.\u00a0 For example, together with other volunteers, we helped fill a shipping container with refurbished mobility equipment destined for Fiji, the 27th load to the islands since 2009. Vodaphone Fiji once again covered the shipping costs to Fiji Mobility Alliance (formerly the Spinal Injuries Association).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-3.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-7147\" src=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-3-300x236.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"236\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-3-300x236.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/sigbi.org\/bristol\/files\/2026\/04\/PhysioNet-2026-3.jpeg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The equipment (1168 items) had to be loaded in two phases: from PhysioNet\u2019s base to the vans and then from the vans to the shipping container.
