The Club\u2019s priorities and projects<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Each year the club decides what we\u2019ll do and which projects we will support. Some projects are supported over several years whilst others are short term. We usually opt to help a local, national and international project- and will also support the projects that SIGBI and\/ or our Region propose.<\/p>\n

Fresh Thoughts- information and support for women fleeing domestic abuse in the London Borough of Bromley<\/h2>\n

The Club has published the first comprehensive guide for women suffering from domestic abuse. Linked to the Bromley & Croydon Women’s Aid website via a QR code, we are now working to ensure that it’s widely known and available.<\/p>\n

Safe schooling for Moroccan girls<\/h2>\n

In 2020\/2021 we \u00a0decided to embark on a three year project in partnership with the British Moroccan Society\u00a0http:\/\/www.britishmoroccansociety.org<\/a> and the Assafou Association\u00a0http:\/\/www.associationassafou.org .\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

This has been so successful that we’re continuing our support beyond the planned 3 years.<\/p>\n

Girls living in the rural areas of Morocco receive local primary school education. When they leave and go to secondary school there is a dilemma for their families who have fears about their safety travelling to and from the city. Many girls drop out of school at this time.<\/p>\n

Bromley Soroptimists committed \u00a0for \u00a0three years to fund the transport that ensures that at least some can go to school and reach their full potential.<\/p>\n

Club members visited Morocco in February 2023 and came back enthused about the success of the project. We have decided to continue that funding but, where possible, \u00a0to add to it. The Club and individual members donated funds to the Henna Cafe after the earthquake and during the challenge of Covid.<\/p>\n

Bromley and Croydon Women\u2019s Aid-<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Our local service for women and children affected by domestic violence. BWA provides emergency accommodation for women and their children who are at risk and need to leave their homes- often with only what they can carry. From there families are helped to make important life decisions and resettle. Additionally preventive services are provided both directly to families and in schools.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bromley Brighter Beginnings<\/h3>\n

An excellent and innovative local charity that tackles the poverty of families with children. We’ve been so impressed by the way this local organisation has responded to greater and greater needs for help for families. We’ve donated funds both as a group and as individuals. Homeless in Bromley<\/strong><\/p>\n

Homelessness is increasing in our area and we were dismayed to hear from Bromley Homeless ,our local charity, that many are younger people. Again we’ve donated some money and will take \u00a0opportunities to help over this coming year. http:\/\/bromleyhomeless.org<\/a><\/p>\n
