May 9th was a key Date in Burton upon Trent Soroptimist Club’s celebration of Membership Month. On that Monday, members in “S” badges and T shirts greeted those visiting Branston, and had a display table advertising their work with leaflets and photographs of their activities.
Later in the evening of May 9th, at the Business Meeting, which was open to visitors, the theme was again Membership. In the meeting, led by Membership Secretaries Margaret Heather and Ruth James, we shared our personal experiences of Soroptimism and the achievements of the Burton Club through the decades since its beginnings in 1941. To celebrate the 75th year of the Club’s existence, Valerie Burton had updated the History of the Club. The book was formally presented to President Diane Buxton at the Charter Dinner on May 20th. Copies have been made available to all members.
Following the successful publicity at Branston, an informal evening for prospective members was held at member Margaret Heather’s house. In a relaxed atmosphere, questions about Soroptimism were answered and invitations given to future meetings.
