SI Burton upon Trent members went on a visit to Calke Abbey, our local National Trust property, where there is a new installation called HumanKind. It focuses on mental health issues of a number of the residents of the property over the last 200 years and in particular how the family helped and supported those suffering.
The installation has been put together in collaboration with the University of Leicester and is brought up to date with a contemporary film about particular groups, especially the deaf, older people and young men, that can become isolated. In addition there is a pledge wall where visitors can take a card to remind them to do a small act of kindness, perhaps to get in touch with someone who might be lonely, to plant two plants and give one away, etc. The aim is very much to get visitors to ‘Think on It’
This visit was organised as part of our Mental Health awareness activities, In the photo several members are wearing green to show support. For one of our charities this year we are raising funds for Burton upon Trent MIND, which is a small local charity dealing with mental health.
