MARY’S MEALS<\/p>\n

Members of Buxton Club visited Chesterfield Probus and Matlock Rotary to talk about this project and as a result twelve completed back packs and three sacks of clothes and equipment were sent to Mary’s Meals.<\/p>\n

Quote from a beneficiary:\u00a0 (Mary’s Meals)\u00a0 We love the backpack project because it complements our school feeding programme by providing children with items that support their education.\u00a0 Tadala, twelve, from Malawi “I’m very happy I’ll be able to keep my exercise books safely in my new bag”.<\/p>\n

BLUEBELL WOOD CHILDREN’S HOSPICE<\/p>\n

Buxton Soroptimist, Joy, works for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.<\/p>\n

TALKING NEWSPAPERS FOR THE BLIND<\/p>\n

Buxton Soroptimist, Heather, recorded Talking Newspapers for the Blind.\u00a0 Heather had a phone call from a blind lady to say that the Talking Newspaper was her only contact with the outside world.<\/p>\n

FIRST RESPONDERS<\/p>\n

President Elect Sue arranged a training day for volunteers from First Responders and East Midlands Ambulance Service.\u00a0 Sue also organises training in diabetes.<\/p>\n

WATER AID<\/p>\n

This is an ongoing project to help with disaster management and relief.\u00a0 Funds have been sent to Water Aid.<\/p>\n

HUMANITY INCLUSIVE<\/p>\n

Humanity Inclusive sent a competition for SI Buxton to use and money was raised by a quiz and fun night.<\/p>\n

Humanity Inclusive wrote to thank the Club and said that two children had benefitted from having artificial limbs and support from counsellors.<\/p>\n

ALZHEIMERS SOCIETY<\/p>\n

President Elect Sue and family who run the Jungle Pet Shop in Buxton organised an Open Day, sold cakes and ran a tombola.\u00a0 Funds raised were sent to the Alzheimers Society.<\/p>\n

A lady whose father has dementia said it was heartening to know people cared.<\/p>\n

CHILD CARERS<\/p>\n

Buxton Club members took part in a competition and supper event and money was raised for Child Carers.<\/p>\n

Quote from beneficiary:\u00a0 We gave the children a party.\u00a0 One little girl said it was wonderful not to have to worry about her mum for a few hours.\u00a0 She likes going to school for this reason and hates school holidays because there is no escape from “cleaning my mum”.<\/p>\n

BUXTON GARDEN TRAIL<\/p>\n

Buxton Club agreed to participate in organising and supporting Buxton Garden Trail project. Funds were raised for the Meru Garden Project, Samaritans, Blythe House Hospice and High Peak Care & Derbyshire Befriending Service.<\/p>\n

President Elect Jo said “the wonderful thing about the Trail is that it brings people together and it’s about sharing knowledge and passion.\u00a0 It’s great we can raise money for local charities as you never know when you might need their services”.<\/p>\n
