Founder members Shirley and Thelma received certificates in recognition of their service to SI Buxton.\u00a0 Shirley was the Club’s first President and Thelma the first Secretary.\u00a0 A party was held at Shirley’s home to celebrate the occasion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

45th CHARTER CELEBRATION HELD AT CAVENDISH GOLF CLUB IN MAY 2017<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Four fellow Soroptimists attended from Staffordshire Moorlands\u00a0and, on\u00a0behalf of our long lasting friendship with\u00a0their Club,\u00a0Chris presented Acting President Ann with a\u00a0friendship candle<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\nTo add to the frocks\u00a0and hats, blazers\u00a0and boaters theme\u00a0of the celebration, Lorna Young was invited to be\u00a0our guest speaker.\u00a0Lorna is a local milliner living in Hayfield, who trained in London\u00a0and now\u00a0works both at the Hat Museum in Stockport\u00a0and as a teacher\u00a0in Leeds. She gave us a wonderful history of the hat through the different eras and how important the hat industry was to Stockport\u00a0and the surrounding areas.<\/strong><\/p>\n

After\u00a0her talk\u00a0Lorna gave us a demonstration,\u00a0with\u00a0the opportunity to make our own decoration as a lovely memento of the day<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
