Meeting of the UKPAC Committee.
In this special evening, Kevin Hyland, UK first Independent Anti Slavery Commissioner, talks about modern slavery and why its our duty to end it.
Following 30 years in policing, including leading London’s Metropolitan Police Human Trafficking Unit, in 2014 Kevin Hyland OBE was appointed as the UK’s first Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner by Rt. Hon. Theresa May MP, serving with distinction, before stepping down in August 2018.
Mr Hyland was instrumental in the establishment of the Santa Marta Group, a high-level strategic partnership between international law enforcement agencies, the Catholic Church and civil society, which was launched by Pope Francis at the Vatican in April 2014 of which he remains as the Senior Special Advisor.
He leads a number of international anti trafficking projects, including Chairing the Responsible Recruitment Group of the Institute of Human Rights and Business, Chairing the Island of Ireland Human Trafficking Project and recently was elected as Ireland’s Representative of the Council of Europe GRETA (trafficking experts) team.
The event is free, but a collection will be taken with monies given to organisations working against slavery and supporting victims in London.
