Cannock Soroptimists marked World Porridge Day on October 10th by holding a Porridge Breakfast at the home of one of the Club members. The idea began when the President Trish Smith invited a representative of Mary\u2019s Meals to come along and talk to club members.<\/p>\n
Mary\u2019s Meals is a registered charity which sets up school feeding programmes in some of the world\u2019s poorest communities, where hunger and poverty prevent children from gaining an education. These life-changing meals attract hungry children into the classroom. The food fills their empty bellies so they have the energy and opportunity to learn, giving them the chance of a brighter future. The meals also support families struggling to feed their children while boosting the country\u2019s wider economy.<\/p>\n
Mary\u2019s Meals feeds more than 1.5 million children in 18 countries around the world every school day. In countries including Malawi, Liberia and Zambia, the children receive vitamin-enriched maize porridge.<\/p>\n
Mary\u2019s Meals launched World Porridge Day to celebrate the huge difference our daily meals make to the lives of chronically hungry children. Cannock Soroptimists have supported Mary\u2019s Meals in various ways for many years but this is the first time they have held a Porridge Breakfast event. It was well attended and everyone enjoyed their porridge: not too hot, not too lumpy \u2013 but just right! And they raised \u00a3125.00 which will feed 9 children for a whole year: Soroptimists proving again that they are women inspiring action and transforming lives.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
