Cannock Soroptimists were joined by family and friends to take part in a socially distanced Solstice Stroll to raise awareness of, and funds for, St Giles Hospice.\u00a0 The \u2018stroll\u2019 took place on Saturday 20th<\/sup> June, the day of the Summer Solstice when St Giles usually hosts a mass walk.\u00a0 Of course, this wasn\u2019t possible this year \u2013 so supporters were asked to consider taking part in a 10,000 step or a 10K stroll, either individually or in small groups \u2013 and the walk could be done on one day or even throughout the whole month of June.\u00a0 And the idea took off!\u00a0 Cannock Soroptimists wanted to add their support and their initial team of 6 strollers quickly grew as others wanted to show their support too.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

So they met, keeping 2m distance apart, in the sunshine opposite Mill Farm Pool and began their walk in groups, to ensure they kept appropriate social distancing in play. Everyone who joined in on the day said what a super idea it was and how much they enjoyed it \u2013 not least actually seeing each other, albeit at a distance, for the first time in months.\u00a0 Others who were not able to join in at the time are doing their own walking \u2013 some rather like Captain Tom and walking round their lawn!\u00a0 All have donated or obtained sponsorship and so far over \u00a3800.00 has been raised by Cannock Soroptimists for St Giles Hospice. And the 10,000 steps were completed by most with some managing the 10K!<\/p>\n

President Trish Smith said \u201cSt Giles is very close to the hearts of many of us in the Club, we were so pleased to be able to do something to help them at what is a difficult time for all Hospices and charities.\u201d<\/p>\n
