Acting upon issues raised in their recent meetings about care of our planet, Cannock Soroptimists \u2013 and friends \u2013 are taking some actions to help.<\/p>\n
Most members are now enjoying at least one meat and fish free day every week and sharing their favourite recipes.\u00a0 Eating less meat can mean a lower risk of many health problems for individuals whilst meat production can be harmful to our planet.<\/p>\n
Members decided it would be good to join, or do their own, litter picks. Soroptimists June Bould and Val Jones joined a litter pick in Heath Hayes and were quite shocked at the amount of litter dropped by people.\u00a0 June will soon be organising further litter picks, hopefully on a monthly basis \u2013 others will be welcome to join in.<\/p>\n
A huge talking point was the amount of packaging goods are supplied in, food particularly; so much of it cannot be recycled.\u00a0 To find out more about what can be recycled and what can\u2019t be, members decided to collect all packaging for one week. They are each collecting it in two separate \u2018lots\u2019 \u2013 that which can be recycled [in Staffordshire, though this alters depending on arrangements for different counties] and that which cannot be recycled.\u00a0 This has already raised lots of questions!\u00a0 Once the collection period has ended they will be looking more into the issues of recycling and unnecessary packaging and sharing that information as widely as possible.<\/p>\n
And to be sure they encourage wildlife to their gardens, 11 year old Katie Hodges is sending them regular \u2018tips\u2019 to follow!<\/p>\n
