Activities and reports of meetings and events from AGM April 2017
25th March 2018 – Members, fellow soroptimists from neighbouring clubs and friends joined President Sandra for her swan song, namely her President’s lunch held at the Coed Hills Rural Arts Space near Cowbridge. It was also an opportunity to celebrate long standing member Dr Betty Craig’s birthday kindly made by IPP Ann Thomas.
23rd March 2018 – President Sandra presents a cheque to Barbara Redmore of Llamau for £124.55 proceeds from the race night held in December. Llamau works with over 8,000 young people, women and families fleeing domestic abuse, every year and demands on their services are increasing.

8th March 2018 – President Sandra attended an event at Friendship Link club SI Kenilworth
Wednesday 24th January 2018 – club and supper meeting chaired by Vice President Jeni in the absence of the President and President Elect who were both on holiday. Programme Action updates and officers reports and plans for future discussed.
Monday 18th December 2017 – President Elect Jen Hancock represented the club at the concert held by the Forget Me Not choir. https://www.forgetmenotchorus.com/
Wednesday 13th December 2017 – good fun, good company, good food at the Christmas gathering.
Saturday 2nd December 2017 – At the regional meeting in Aberavon President Sandra presented a cheque for £437.50 for the Meru women’s garden project. Regional Programme Action Officer Judy received the cheque the proceeds of the club’s Crafternoon tea.
Tuesday 28th November 2017 – An evening at the Potting Shed Llantrisant with an opportunity to browse and shop, chat and catch up, drink mulled wine and nibbles and a chance to say happy 101st birthday to Sheila Griffiths and to share her birthday cake!
Wednesday 22nd November 2017 – club and speaker meeting. After supper, members heard of the work of Llamau http://www.llamau.org.uk/ from Barbara Redmore, the charity’s corporate and community fundraiser. Following Barbara’s talk, a short meeting was held and a sales table offering goods from the Purple Community Fund.
In her absence, club member Sara Wells was congratulated on winning the Gold Award for excellence in dementia care at the Wales Awards 2017. Wynne Evans presented the trophy and certificate to Sara at the ceremony in Cardiff’s City Hall on 17th November. (See photos above)

Tuesday 17th October 2017 – President Sandra accompanied by club members Sara Wells and Liz James presents a cheque to the Mike Walsh CEO of City Hospice, proceeds of the Garden Party held on 8th July. The amount raised has been match funded by Marie Curie.
Wednesday 11th October 2017 – short club meeting chaired by Karen Yates receiving reports of activities and plans for the future.
Saturday 7th October 2017 – A Crafternoon Tea – a lovely afternoon tea was enjoyed by members, fellow soroptimists from neighbouring clubs and friends in aid of the SIGBI Meru Women’s Garden Project. http://meruwomen.org/ Prior to the tea at the pretty village hall in Penllyn, Hilary and Salinder shared their crafting skills.
Wednesday 27th September 2017 – Reports and a plan discussed following the Branding meeting attended by President Sandra, Pat, Kay and Jen. Supper next followed by the induction of new member Eva Lukaszewicz and a short meeting to discuss the roll out of the Anti Slavery survey.
Saturday 23rd September 2017 10am – 3pm – SIWS Regional Meeting and AGM – Machynys Golf Club Llanelli at which, SI Cardiff received 2nd prize at the Wales South Regional Programme Action Awards for their work with NuLife
Wednesday 13th September 2017 – club meeting. Reports given with emphasis on Programme Action especially the forthcoming Anti Human Trafficking survey.
Monday 11th September 2017 – club executive meeting. Minutes circulated to members.
Saturday 12th August 2017 – Summer outing – Llanelly House – a tour and Afternoon Tea Members enjoyed a tour of Llanelly House and were interested to learn its background and details of its renovation. Afternoon tea was also enjoyed with a chance to chat and socialise.
Wednesday 12th July 2017 – club meeting Holiday Inn, Tongwynlais 7.15pm led by A & C group. Prior to discussing club business, Alys Davies to whom the club gave a small gift for her visit to Zambia. Alys visited as a volunteer for ICS Restless Development https://www.volunteerics.org/restless-development-ics and gave an upbeat and fascinating insight into the work she undertook with young people during her short visit. Saturday 8th July 2017 – Garden Party with Big Band Sound at the George Thomas Hospice. Buffet, drinks, raffle and auction enabled let to a profit of over £820 from this event for the work of the Hospice. Wednesday 5th July 2017- club executive meeting 10.30am – minutes circulated to members
Wednesday 28th June 2017 – supper meeting at the Holiday Inn Tongwynlais – Following a supper of lasagne and salad followed by apple crumble and cream, members were addressed by Debbie Pezzani CEO of the Teens @) Unite fighting cancer charity. http://teensunitefightingcancer.org/ Debbie, who founded the charity, spoke about its work and showed two short videos after which members were invited to ask questions.
Wednesday 14th June 2017 – the meeting at the Holiday Inn Tongwynlais was chaired by President Elect Jen Hancock in the absence of President Sandra who was delayed in traffic from Reading. The key business was a report from Jane and Jeni joint Programme Action Officers on the way forward for the club. PA will become a key part of club meetings with a smaller more focussed areas to be covered.

Wednesday 24th May 2017 – Supper meeting at the Holiday Inn Tongwynlais 7.15pm. Members enjoyed a supper of chicken casserole and vegetables followed by a lemon tart pud after which guests Christine Chandler spoke about the work of the George Thomas Hospice. Annual funding requirements are over a £1M so our support is greatly valued. The Hospice offers home based care to patients and not just cancer patients as in the past. Ceri Lewis spoke about the wonderful and invaluable help she received following the death of her husband.
Saturday 13th May 2017 10am-3pm – Regional meeting, Aberavon Beach Hotel – 9 club members attended the meeting which included a talk from SI Cardiff & District member Professor Jackie Jones. Jackie spoke about VAWG (Violence against women and girls) and eradication of discrimination against women in the workplace
Wednesday 10th May 2017 – club meeting Holiday Inn, Tongwynlais 7.15pm. President Sandra’s first club meeting as president. General club business discussed focussing on future Programme Action activities. Nominations for SIGBI posts voted upon.

Wednesday 12 April 2017 – 22 members attended the AGM at the Holiday Inn Tongwynlais. Reports were given and the new president Sandra Ajax (above right) was installed as president. A warm thanks was given to outgoing offices especially President Ann (above left) who in turn thanked outgoing secretary Dr Joan Williams and treasurer Carol Williams.
