Members at the Violence Against Women, Women Against Violence Conference we held in Birmingham.

Welcome to Soroptimist International Central Birmingham (SICB) Club. We are one of 12 Clubs in the Midland Arden Region which is one of the 23 Regions that make up Soroptimist International Great Britain & Ireland (SIGBI). Our Club was formed on the 24th of October in 1928, the sixth Club to be formed in the UK. The Club is led by a President who is elected annually and is supported by an Executive Committee comprising a President Elect, Vice President, Club Secretary, Programme Action Officer and others.

For nearly 90 years, we have given service and influenced policy in human rights, the advancement of education, furtherance of health, relief of poverty and distress by fund raising and lobbying. We are currently focusing on highlighting Violence Against Women (VAW). Please see our dedicated page for further information. Through the work we undertake on projects we develop friendships and have fun and aim to promote international goodwill and understanding.

We meet once a month (except in August) for a Club Meeting, which is usually on the 1st Tuesday of the month. We try to have a social dinner at least once a quarter to have a chat and a mingle! Our club meetings are sometimes attended by a guest speaker who will generally tie into what is in our programme action at the time. These speakers will be scheduled into the programme where possible.

Come and meet us to find out more!

Some members with the entrants and winner of the Valerie Evans Rose Bowl Award we collaborated with Kings Norton Girls School on. They all presented excellent papers on female scientists that they found inspirational.
