Message from Region President Hilary
It is the members of Nantwich Club that I have to thank, who welcomed me into Soroptimist International. Like any new thing you do, I initially felt nervous, not knowing very much, but I quickly made great friends, whom I still have today, and got to know about the Club, the Region and how things worked.
My work as a Headteacher took me away to a very rural part of India for a while. On my return I joined Southampton Club, as my work had taken me to the Eastleigh area.
When I retired from teaching, my husband David and I moved back to Ellesmere Port and I was welcomed as a member into SI Ellesmere Port Club, eventually becoming their President. I also resumed my association with Cheshire, North Wales and Wirral Region.
I feel very grateful of the opportunity to serve as Region President. I also have a wonderful team of officers working with me and supporting me.
My theme for the year is ‘Walk a mile with a smile’.
Literally, by getting out there and walking, jogging or whatever means of getting from A to B you choose. That mile can be used to raise awareness of what we do locally, nationally and internationally.
I have also chosen Dentaid as a charity as it provides access to dental care, training and educating locally, nationally and internationally
My theme includes ‘Walk that extra mile with a smile’
There are so many members within our Region who do this. Can we all go that extra mile to make a difference and celebrate our achievements?
Fun and friendship is what being a Soroptimist is all about . It is what I enjoy, making friends and being welcomed as a sister wherever I go. ‘Soroptimist’ as a word means ‘best of sisters’ and my sisters and I will be doing our very best for women and girls, wherever they are.
