Royal Cheshire Show – June 2019

The Royal Cheshire County Show 18th & 19th June 2019.

The Royal Cheshire Show is organised by the charity, Cheshire Agricultural Society CIO. The land-owning gentry of the county founded the Cheshire Agricultural Society in 1838, when the Royal Cheshire Show was first held. The Show has expanded over the years to include many new attractions and now attracts up to 80,000 visitors.

Each year the Region organises a Soroptimist Stand

Members from around the Region help to run the event. This year’s theme is ‘Period Poverty’, and Jacquie Weatherill, Region Committee Chair thanked the committee for putting together such a magnificent display.

There was much interest in the stand and members were able to talk about our work as Soroptimists, highlighting the theme “Period Poverty” and the Pink Box Project.

Members of the public were asked to sign a petition to abolish VAT on Sanitary products

This year’s event was a huge success with the crowds coming out in full force to attend the Show over the two days. So much interest and support, and many wonderful conversations were had with the public over this issue.  Small pink boxes were made to decorate the tree, representing the Pink Box Project, and members of the public were invited to write their sentiments on the pink hearts and hang them on the tree.  At the end of 2 days the tree looked wonderful!

After 7 years of raising awareness about Soroptimist International, and recruiting numerous new members, this will be our last presence at the Royal Cheshire Show. The exposure at this very large regional show was very much our Soroptimist window to the world.

Over the years we have raised awareness about Breast Cancer, Toilet Twinning, Mary’s Meals, Domestic Violence and the  Purple Tear Drop Campaign.
