WORKING WITH MARY’S MEALS

Sue Donovan, member of SI Heswall sponsored the building and installation of a Kitchen with Mary’s Meals at Ngumbe Primary School in Malawi. You can see her stirring the pot of porridge made from locally sourced maize for the children’s lunch. For many of the children this is the only meal they receive each day.

Many Clubs support Mary’s Meals, a Campaign set up in Argyll, Scotland, in 2002, following a visit to Malawi by founder and Chief Executive, Magnus MacFarlane-Barrow. The aim is to provide a nutritious daily school meal in order to attract chronically poor children into a classroom where they can gain an education, which may in turn be their ladder out of poverty. Mary’s Meals began by feeding 200 children in Malawi – one of the world’s least developed countries

Today Mary’s meals is a global movement with school feeding projects in some of the world’s poorest communities.

In addition to donating money some of our members work with Schools on a Backpack Projects – Rucksacks are filled with basic items such as notebooks, pencils and erasers, as well as simple clothing and toiletries.
