Region Centenary Celebrations in Llandudno<\/h2>\n

\"\"<\/a>On a beautiful warm October day in Happy Valley Llandudno, the Region came together to celebrate 100 years of Soroptimist International.<\/p>\n

Region Time Capsule<\/h3>\n

Region President Louise buried a Time Capsule which included contributions from clubs in the Region, these included:<\/p>\n

Region – a Photo of Banner created for centenary,\u00a0SI Anglesey- Craft Items made by former members,\u00a0SI Bebington – ,Soap,\u00a0SI Birkenhead – Badge and ribbon,\u00a0SI Chester- Booklet for \"\"<\/a>first Club, and Information about new club projects,\u00a0SI Denbigh & Ruthin – Club Badge,\u00a0SI Ellesmere Port – Badge created for 100 years celebrations,\u00a0SI Heswall – Embroidered Insignia of club,\u00a0SI Nantwich – Flyer for Modern Day Slavery Project,\u00a0SI Northwich – Embroidered insignia of town and some salt,\u00a0SI Rhyl – Honey and a bee,\u00a0SI Runcorn\/Frodsham – -Copy of play “100 Years of Soroptimist Heroines”, South Caernarfonshire –\u00a0a photo of Hellen a young mother from Zambia who the have supported to go back to school and then on to university<\/p>\n

The Time Capsule was buried in front of a memorial bench, made locally from recycled plastic, and\u00a0 dedicated to 100 years of Soroptimists –\u00a0 Please click here for more information about the bench<\/a><\/p>\n

Celebrating 100 Years<\/h3>\n

\"\"<\/a>The event was wonderfully organised by club members from SI Llandudno and the Region. Special guests invited to the event included:<\/p>\n

Robin Millar MP,\u00a0Mayor of\u00a0Llandudno Harry Saville,\u00a0Mayor of Colwyn Bay\u00a0Merrill Jones, \u00a0Senedd Assembly members\u00a0Mark Isherwood, Janet Finch Saunders and\u00a0Sam Rowlands, Local Councillors\u00a0Louise Emery,\u00a0Greg Robins, and\u00a0Frank Bradfield.<\/p>\n

The event began with SI Llandudno planting 2 Japanese Cherry trees as their contribution to #PlantTrees for the Centenary<\/p>\n

Region President Louise and Club President Janet Murfin spoke with enthusiasm and pride about the history and work of Soroptimist International at local and global levels.<\/p>\n

There was some regret that SIGBI 87th<\/sup> Federation Conference\u00a0 is\u00a0 not taking place ‘Face to Face’ in Llandudno, however Anne MacDonald Chair of conference #SoroptimistLlandudno2021 was present\u00a0 and will hopefully show \"\"<\/a>some images from the event at the Virtual Conference.<\/p>\n

Blessing and Dedication<\/h3>\n

Revd Mary Stallard, Arch Deacon of Bangor and member of SI Llandudno offered a prayer to \u201cgrant us all the courage to continue to stand for a more just, healthy and fair world: to uphold the goodness of creation, and celebrate the inspiration and delight it provides\u201d. Pleaseclcik her for the full\u00a0Prayer<\/a><\/p>\n

Special Thanks<\/h3>\n

A special mention and thanks must go to Phil Vipond, Peter Barton-Price and the \u2018Happy Valley Crew\u2019 who did an amazing job to provide this beautiful space, tend the garden, plant the trees, and position and fix the bench with the most stunning view of the Welsh coast.<\/p>\n
